When dealing with people, remember you are not dealing with creatures of logic, but creatures of emotion.
This quote by Dale Carnegie is VERY true, which is why it is OFTEN a good idea to incorporate some anecdotal examples or personal stories into any speech you deliver. Most of us have encountered speakers who lacked the ability to connect with an audience, and very often it is due to the fact that the speaker forgot that we are EMOTIONAL creatures. Although facts and statistics are vital to the credibility of the speaker, because we are emotional beings we don’t just want the facts and logical conclusions, but we want the STORY–the juicy details.
When we tug at the heartstrings of an audience with genuine warmth and understanding of the emotional creatures in our midst, we have done more than delivered a speech, we have made a HEART Connection.
