Today is a day to celebrate! Are you scratching your head and saying…”It’s Tuesday, May 19, 2015 and I don’t recall hearing about any big holidays. What am I missing?” You are correct because today is not a big holiday; however, for my husband and I it is a BIG celebration. You see, today is our SILVER ANNIVERSARY. Yes! We are celebrating 25 years of marriage, and we recognize that this is a significant accomplishment.
As the two of us discussed how we are going to celebrate this momentous occasion, it occurred to us that when our own parents celebrated their 25th wedding anniversaries, we thought they were so old. That is when we realized that our kids are probably thinking the same of us. So, we asked them and, you guessed it, they think we are old. Well, we don’t feel old and, except for some additional wrinkles and a few gray hairs poking through, we don’t look old. So, we have decided that if we don’t feel old or look old, then we aren’t old. After 25 years together; however, we do recognize that we are wiser. We also now understand that those words we repeated: “for better or worse;” “for richer and poorer;” “in sickness and in health;” actually really mean something. In the throws of youth, naiveté and love–we had NO IDEA what we were in for when we stood at the alter on May 19, 1990. Which leads me to the real reason I’m writing: you see in the past 25 years we have experienced better and worse; richer and poorer; serious illnesses and wonderful health and it is those elements of daily life that have led both of us to the place we are at today–celebrating 25 years of commitment.
That’s OUR story, and I know that YOU too have a story and life experiences that have landed you right where you are today. The next question is–what are you doing with life’s lessons?
