Consider the old stories and movies where pirates go on a long journey to find treasure, and they use a map where X marks the spot. Depending on the story, they may find the treasure at the end of their journey or they may not. However, the similarity of their adventure and our living life daily is the same when we recognize that:
Living is the adventure!
As we prepare for Thanksgiving this week, I’d love to encourage you to read and meditate on Psalm 111. This lively passage is a perfect way to “soak in an attitude of Thanksgiving” because it is a reminder of a few things that God has done for us, what He provides for us and what He continually gives to us. And, the best part? It is the fact that pirates were never guaranteed of actually finding the treasure, this Psalm is a treasure that we are guaranteed to enjoy.
The Lord is gracious and merciful (v. 4)
He provides food (v. 5)
He gives an inheritance (v. 6)
He is faithful and just (v. 7)
He is trustworthy (v. 7)
He sent redemption (v. 9)
He gives wisdom and understanding (v. 10)
This small list is just a tiny bit of the treasure of what we can be thankful for and a reminder of all that we can gain if we take a few minutes this week to get quiet and thank our GOD for WHO He is! Just reading this Psalm is an adventure, and we found the treasure!
