Time flies when you’re living each day to the fullest in a state of ongoing THANKFULNESS for this beautiful gift of life.
The first month of 2018 was filled to overflowing with great things, for which I’m deeply grateful. It was also a challenging month on other levels. Can you relate? This grand life that we live is quite a mixture of the wonderful and the downright difficult. The ups and downs of life is nothing new as I was reminded awhile ago when I was studying the Book of Deuteronomy.
This amazing book in God’s Word is a challenge on many levels, because of its depth of material and the repetition of God’s promises, and expectations for the Israelites that were being led to the Promised Land. As I studied this deep book, my pens were inking up the pages with colorful underlines, as I soaked it all in and then determined to apply the words, promises and expectations to my life. With that being said, I could share close to a hundred verses from Deuteronomy that the Lord has pointed out to me, but because we are celebrating Valentine’s Day, I want to share just two:
You shall LOVE the Lord your God with all your HEART and with all your soul and with all your might. And these words that I command you today shall be on your HEART. You shall teach them diligently to your children…Deuteronomy 6:5-7a
This month is a special time to SHOW love to others and RECEIVE love from others. We can get caught up in the hearts, chocolates and flowers (which are awesomely wonderful!), but I’ve realized that the most treasured thing I can do is to LOVE the Lord my God with all of my HEART because when I am LOVING HIM, His love flows through me and I am able to love more genuinely the unlovely, the difficult, the unpopular, etc…
And, with this love comes a desire to:
SHARE love unconditionally
This power-filled commandment comes easily when we enter that place of sweet surrender to the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. But, sometimes, I get in the way of that surrendering and try to take over my life (thinking I know best–which is a hoot!). When we step out of our own way, we can let HIS way FLOW through us and when that happens, we become CONTAGIOUS!
Think about it: we are the RECIPIENTS of HIS great love.
and, in turn, we can now LOVE because HIS LOVE is in US.
And last, but not least, the portion of the passage that says:
“You shall teach them [God’s words & commands] diligently to your children,”
That goes for our children and all of the children in our sphere of influence. Teaching God’s ways so that they too can KNOW how deep and wide the LOVE of God is. My hope and prayer today and every day is that my children, my nieces and nephews, my spiritual children, the ladies who are God’s children that I’ve been blessed to minister to, would know God’s great love.
so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith.
And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love,
may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people,
to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and
to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that
you may be filled to the measure of all the FULLNESS of God.
This month of spreading the love is the perfect time to
SHARE love unconditionally
